For December, some history, some fiction, and some lighter Knausgaard

I reviewed this earlier this year so this is kind of cheating, but Goodbye, Eastern Europe by Jacob Mikanowski is a trip through time and space (in particular, the space that is no longer known to any of its residents, really, as Eastern Europe).
