Normally, this features a mix of fiction and non-fiction, old and new. However! It’s the summer and I thought you might like something a bit more quaffable so here are some short story writers you might enjoy. I am not including the Norton Chekhov anthology because I recommended it back in March and because I tried to make this more contemporary but you really should read the Norton Chekhov anthology.
Nathan Englander
Once, in college, I went up to Nathan Englander at a book festival and told him how much I appreciated his defense of big noses in one of his novels. I appreciate his short story collections for different reasons. Start with For the Relief of Unbearable Urges and then try What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank.
Kazuo Ishiguro
He’s a novelist first but you can and should still read Nocturnes.
