The way I ended up in Savannah was this: Originally, I wanted to go to South Africa for our honeymoon. But then I thought, well, I’ll have been in India for the first few months of the year, and we both have so much travel coming up, so let’s go to Vancouver, a place neither of us has been but that seems wonderful, instead after our wedding, to be held in June 2020.

Obviously, we did not spend 2020 traveling. We pushed our wedding back to October of that year and waited to take a honeymoon. But travel was still frustrated the next year and I didn’t want to deal with the heartbreak of planning a trip and having to call it off, so, in September 2021, we decided to do a southern road trip. We went to Chapel Hill, Charleston, and Wilmington, North Carolina, but best of all was the second stop on the trip: Savannah, a place I had never really thought about going but which we loved, and both a great city and a testament to how sometimes not getting what you wanted or planned is the best thing that can happen.
